I’m His Mom 🏆
I did it again…this DroneMom never knows when to quit, and quite honestly, probably never will.
Congratulations to the most deserved recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award, my very own original Angel Boy!
I was proudly standing on the fifty yard line with the other recipients to accept the award on his behalf (AB was teaching and couldn’t fly in for the ceremony) just before the start of his former high school’s homecoming football game. (They’re undefeated, by the way…GO LANCERS!)
Yes, I nominated him and yes, he was suitably embarrassed but he’s inured to these kinds of things that I do…
I admit I did ask him if he would mind if I nominated him and he laughed and said, “go ahead” because he didn’t think they’d choose him because he didn’t excel in a sport like other recipients Shaun White, Olympic gold medal snowboarder, awesome surfer Taylor Knox, or actress Autumn Reeser (The OC).
His accomplishments are more academic and scholarly than athletic. I felt those skills needed to be recognized as much as anything else, as I always thought he was an inspiring role model for children to do well in school.
I didn’t mind going back to his high school to represent him. I told him that’s actually as it should be because without ME, there’d be no HIM. He laughed and had to agree.
I’m proud of my boy/man whether he receives an award or not. He’s an amazing human, even though he sometimes still skateboards without a helmet.
I love being Angel Boy’s mom, what more can I say?
